Reading a Receipt Worksheets

Read a store receipt: total, tax, change and refunds.

About this worksheet

Each sheet prints a store receipt with real-looking items, prices and change, followed by questions. US receipts add sales tax and Canadian receipts add HST; UK, Australian and Irish receipts show prices with tax already included.

Example of the Reading a Receipt Worksheets printable, Level 2
Example page. Every click of New version makes a different one.

What each level includes

  • Level 1: Three items. Find the store, an item price, the total and the change.
  • Level 2: Five items with cents. Find the tax, the most expensive item and the change.
  • Level 3: Six items, some bought two at a time. Add the subtotal and work out change and a refund.

Ideas for using it

  • Keep real receipts from a class trip and compare them with the sheet.
  • Ask students to circle each part as they use it: item, subtotal, total, change.
